Lightning

Overview

Overview: Lightning is a two-row facultative malting barley developed by Oregon State University. Lightning is rough awned with long rachilla hairs, white auricles, closed collars, pubescent leaf sheaves, and glabrous leaf blades. Lightning at this time is approved by AMBA as satisfactory. Area of adaptation and primary use of the variety: Lightning is well adapted to the Pacific Northwest (South Idaho, Palouse, Columbia Basin, and western valleys of Oregon and Washington) and New York. Data from the Winter Malting Barley Trial (WMBT) suggest it may have a broader adaptation.
