Overview

Survivor is a two-row, hulled, spring feed barley developed at Washington State University. It is adapted across rainfall zones in dryland farming systems in eastern Washington. Survivor represents the first advanced barley line in the U.S. that combines high yields, good agronomic characteristics in dryland grain rotations, and IMI tolerance. Survivor is not intended to be sprayed with IMI herbicides, but was developed to withstand residual herbicides in the soil. In two  years of variety testing prior to release, yield was equal to Bob across high and intermediate precipitation locations. While it does not provide a distinct yield advantage over varieties already in production, Survivor has the agronomic potential to allow barley to be grown in rotation where wheat has been sprayed with an IMI herbicide.
